The Journey of Om: CHANDRU BHOJWANI

Chandru Bhojwani was born in Africa and was raised between Nigeria, India and the UK. After graduating with Masters in International Business and Management, he moved to New York where he worked for three years as a Business Development Manager. In 2002, Chandru returned to Nigeria where he currently resides and runs a trading company. He has been a part of the Beyond Sindh magazine writing team since May 2004 and has published numerous articles and short stories in the quarterly publication. Chandru’s short story entitled ‘The Love Letter’ won the Mirage Book short story contest and was published in an anthology titled Inner Voices in January 2009. His first novel, The Journey of Om was published by Pustak Mahal in December 2009.
What are your ultimate goals?
To be a bestselling author and have my work appreciated, embraced and recognized across the globe. I also hope my writing will make its way on to the silver screen of both Bollywood and Hollywood.
How have you gone about becoming an author and chansing your dreams?
Persistence and taking on constructive criticism. We are surrounded by detractors but it’s important to remain focused on those that we reach and touch. Prayer and visulisation always play their part in accomplishing goals.
Who are the people that have supported you?
Family, close friends and fans played a big role in me getting to where I have. Their support, encouragement and feedback showed me that my work was accepted, enjoyed and made a difference.
To add to that my agent Sherna Khambatta was instrumental in getting me to where I am. Beyond Sindh Magazine was where I was able to hone my skills as a writer and evolve to the extent that I have. My wife, Heena and friends such as Deepa Asnani, Malti Bhojwani, Amit Butani, Kanchan Sakhrani, Madhuri Hemandas and others who played their part in my writing career.
Can you tell us the highlights of your career so far as an author?
- Dec 2009; The Journey of Om was published by Pustak Mahal
- Jan 2009; The Love Letter won the Mirage Short Story competition and was published in an anthology called Inner Voices
- A production house, Flick the Switch approached me with the intention of making one of my short stories in to a movie.
- 2003 Approached by Beyond Sindh to be a columnist.
Are there any up and coming things your fans should look out for?
- There will be a book launch at some point
- I am expecting my book to be reviewed in some magazines.
- I hope to have my book available on Kindle and expect to be the first Sindhi ever to be on Kindle.
- I may be attending the London Book Fair in April
